Our produce are categorized by the way the fruits and vegetables are being grown till harvest. The grading of each category start with Organic graded as A+ being considered the healthiest to Conventional as C being considered the least healthy. By Healthy we mean the least amount of Residual Chemical Level. When Fruits and vegetables are certified by any external body, the appropriate seal of the appropriate body shall be annexed with our category.

[A+] Organic

[A] Natural 

Grown Naturally with minimum use of chemical fertilizers, but no Chemical pesticides have been used during the full crop cycle. Chemical herbicide may have been used to clear the land prior to the plantation of the Fruits and Vegetables.

 

[B+] Hydroponic

Grown in soiless medium like coco peat. Only chemical fertilizers has been used and follows good agricultural practice. Chemical and bio pesticides are used to control pests. As produce are grown in greenhouses the use of pesticides are used are much less than on crops grown in open filed. Good agricultural practices are followed where higher priority was given to Biopesticides.

[B] Smart

Smart stands for Good Agricultural Practices whereby minimum chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides are used. All minimum pre-harvest interval for application of pesticides are respected. All measures are taken on site to restrict to a minimum the use of chemical pesticides. The principles as per the Maurigap standard are being followed. [C] Conventional 

In conventional agriculture, mostly chemical fertilizer and pesticides are used. This is how a great proportion of all the vegetables in Mauritius are produced.

 

At Farmbasket, Conventional vegetables for the time being are not being distributed as all our network of farmers are following at worst Good Agricultural Practices. We are all striving to aim to produce more organic vegetables. This is in line with our mission.
